Graduate Fashion Week

Graduate Fashion Week is where it all begins. There is no disputing that we have the most amazing design talent in this country!

Until 1991 there was no comprehensive catwalk schedule amongst the UK’s leading fashion colleges. Shows took place over four weeks across the country with no synergy or focal point.

Over the years Graduate Fashion Week has launched the careers of such brilliant British designers such as, Stella McCartney, Julian MacDonald, Antonio Baradi, Hussein Cha-layan, Christopher Bailey, Stuart Vevers and Owen Gaster.

British Fashion Council

December 8, 2010 1 comment

The British Fashion Council was formed in 1983 out of the Fashion Industry Action Group, an ad hoc group created in 1981.  The British Fashion Council aims to showcase British designers and develop London’s position as a major player in the international fashion arena. As a result, London Fashion Week ranks alongside New York, Milan and Paris as one of the ‘Big Four’.

Alongside these platforms to promote the very best of our designer fashion, we work behind the scenes in a number of vital ways to support the fashion industry. Through our  BFC Colleges Council initiative, we form a link between the industry and fashion graduates from the UK’s leading colleges. Meanwhile, thanks to a series of important sponsorship schemes including the MA Scholarship, New Gen and Fashion Forward, we are able to provide support to emerging British fashion designers. These schemes range from business mentoring and seminars to competitions and sponsorship.

Fashion Indie is a resource for young designers looking for a little publicity and tips. We regularly feature emerging fashion designers, we always promote the events and shows of young designers, and best of all WE CAN BE BOUGHT. We have a program called Fast Track which puts you’re story, event, or sale ahead of all the other tips we get thrown at us. What this means is that within 24 hours your brand can be in front of thousands of our readers and circulating through dozens of our site feeds which distribute our content.

In addition, we regularly develop events specifically for our network of over 5000 emerging fashion designers. Events have included fashion shows, charity auctions, design competitions, grants for fashion designers, networking events, and fashion weeks all devoted to young fashion designers.

Miha

Cleverly conceived as a play on words on the up and coming designer Youngmi Ha’s name, Miha was launched with the objective to bridge the gap between the high end and contemporary markets. Miha represents a combination of architectural shape and refined draping. Ha’s vision creates  sophisticated and modern silhouettes using her high end training while maintaining a slightly more humble price point, allowing her garments to be more accessible. Each style in the collection plays with textures and each fabric’s unique qualities to create a work of art.

Born from New York fashion powerhouses, Miha was launched with the objective to bridge the gap between the high end and contemporary markets.

Miha represents a combination of architectural shapes and refined draping while incorporating sophisticated, modern silhouettes and designer quality at a slightly more humble pricepoint. Each collection is built starting with a mix of custom developed fabrics and unique bodies.

For the SS2011 launching season Miha plays with textures and each fabric’s unique qualities to create individual works of art presented as a collection of masterpieces.
